Art Education
I believe that artistic expression is crucial in developing children's understanding of themselves and their surroundings.
With over two years' experience as an Art Educator, I'm proud to have provided more than one hundred creative workshops for groups of children aged 2-11 at three different schools in Hampshire.
My approach prioritises child-led creative play, with an open ended structure which focuses on the process rather than the result.
I offer both one-off and repeating sessions as a self-employed artist.
"Thank you for sharing your talent and expertise with us at Owslebury. I was so impressed with the high quality pieces you helped the children achieve. The children have been so inspired by you! We look forward to having you back."
Lucy Chaplen, Headteacher at Owslebury Primary School.
What do my sessions look like?
Art shouldn't come with constraints or directions.
I prioritise child-led creative play, with an open ended structure which focuses on the process. This can strengthen a child's working memory, cognitive flexibility, and fine-motor skills.
I offer gentle encouragement and guidance when necessary, and model techniques and behaviours by creating alongside the children.
Under my supervision, children feel encouraged and inspired to experiment, make mistakes, and to problem solve.
Importantly, I patiently listen to children and allow their voice to be heard, and for their ideas and suggestions to shape workshops.
Resources and prompts are provided - think clay, paint, fabric, glue, sand, water, paint, tape, natural items and loose parts!
For 2-5 year olds, I follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework to inform sessions.
